Who is Christian Pulisic?
Pulisic was born in Hershey Pennsylvania where he grew up. His mum, Kelley and dad, Mark Pulisic, both played collegiate soccer at Gorge Mason University and his father also played professional indoor soccer for the Harrisburg heat in the 1990s and later became a coach at the youth and professional levels. Growing up, his soccer mentor was Luis Figo, the Portuguese international.
While his mother was on a teacher exchange in England through the Fullbright program, Pulisic lived for a year in Oxfordshire in England at age seven, he began playing for the youth team of Barckley Town when his father was general manager of indoor club Detroit ignition in the mid-2000s, Pulisic lived in Michigan and played for Michigan Rush also he attended workman elementary school.
He is popular known in America as ‘Captain AMERICA’. Christian began his career professionally at Borussia Dortmund academy at age 15 in Germany. Because of his talent and the pace, he was progressing in the youth system, he was promoted to the senior team in 2016 at the age of 17. His progress increased dramatically in the following season at Dortmund. he was an integral player for the Dortmund team that won DFP-Pokal in the season of 2016-2017.
He became a Chelsea player in January 2019 for his permanent transfer from Borussia Dortmund, but he played the remaining season at Dortmund on a loan for the German club. He signed a five- and half-year deal and became the third American to play for Chelsea. Christian Pulisic made his first start for Chelsea at old Trafford again Manchester united as a substitute in a defeat 4-0. He became a regular in the starting line-up by the end of 2019, but injury and suspension dwindled his season during the Covid-19 pandemic meant he didn’t play between New Year’s Day and the first game of the restart in mid-June. His form was worth the wait, though, as he opened the scoring in our first two games of the restart, wins over Aston Villa and Manchester City.
Captain America finished his first campaign in England as arguably Chelsea and the Premier League’s form player, underlined when he became the first American to score in an FA Cup final as he again got the first goal of the game, against Arsenal at Wembley. However, an injury meant an early end to his match and Chelsea struggled to maintain the same incisive attacks in his absence, as the club missed out on finishing the season with a trophy.
The hamstring injury he sustained in the FA Cup final in Chelsea’s final game of 2019/20 ruled him out until the sixth fixture of the new campaign, when he came on as a late sub in a big home win over Crystal Palace. A spate of appearances followed, and a first goal of the season away to Krasnodar, too, but then after feeling his hamstring in the warm-up at Burnley he was removed from the starting line-up. He was ruled out for another month. In his second game back, against Leeds, he scored the game-sealing goal late on in front of a small crowd at Stamford Bridge, and his fitness remained good for the rest of Chelsea’s season.
When chelsea appointed Lampard as their manager he used him on the right or left of the front three, but when his former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel arrived in January, Pulisic more often than not found himself further infield in more of a 3-4-2-1 shape, initially used largely as an impact sub. Having come off the bench, he set up the second goal of Tuchel’s reign, Marcos Alonso’s brilliant effort against Burnley, and Emerson’s breakaway strike at home to Atletico Madrid in the English capital.
April brought three league goals in two games, West Brom and Crystal Palace his victims, with one of his strikes at Selhurst Park a near-replica of another lockdown effort in south London. By this stage of the season he was hitting the heights he managed at the tail-end of the previous one, starting more often, and showcased his ability in the Champions League, too. In the ‘home’ leg against Porto, he was named man of the match having almost single-handedly taken the attack to our physical Portuguese opponents, drawing an astonishing 11 fouls, the most in a single game in the competition in the previous five years. Pulisic won the champions league with Chelsea that said year 2020-2021 season.
On January 2, 2022, he scored the equalizer in a 2–2 draw at home at Stamford bridge against Liverpool. He then came on early as a substitute in the FIFA club world cup final helping Chelsea to a 2–1 over the brazilin giant palmeries. He started the league cup final against Liverpool on February 27 as Chelsea lost on penalties after a 0–0 draw. He scored in both legs of the club’s champions league last 16 tie against the French side Lille, as Chelsea progressed 4–1 on aggregate.
In the 2022-2023 season Pulisic scored in his first start under new Chelsea manager Graham Porter a 3–0 win over wolves.
